  Sita Ramam Plot Summary

With a running time of 163 minutes, Sita Ramam tells the story of Afree, a brave Pakistani youth who gets into trouble after vandalizing a rich man's car. He returns to Pakistan to receive monetary help from his grandfather, Brigadier Abu Tariq, but he has just passed away.

In order for Afree to receive the money, he is tasked with delivering a letter to a woman named Sita Mahalaxmi from a neighboring, rival country, India.

He is angry at first but finally gives in and sets out to find Sita and give her Major Ram's letter. The letter was written almost twenty years ago, in 1965. Afree's quest to find the nonexistent Sita helps him learn that Ram is a righteous orphan soldier. After an activist says on National Radio that Ram has no family of his own, the soldier starts receiving letters from people all over the world.

Although initially confused, Ram diligently answers each letter. He sends his letters to her, no return address. Ram is determined to find Sita and promises to deliver the letters to her by hand.

Did Sita tell Rama who she really was?

He sets out to find her, only to learn that Sita Mahalaxmi is someone who works as a dance teacher at the Royal Palace. He tries to win Sita and the soldier's charm somehow works well. Although Sita is in love with him, she is unable to tell Ram the truth about her identity.

Sita is actually Princess Noor Jahan, the heiress of the Royal Palace. Unaware of his true identity, Ram waits for Sita to meet him at the train station before leaving for Kashmir. However, due to the financial crisis, Prince Noor Jahan's brother prepares her to marry a Mughal Prince.

Unwilling to let Ram go, Princess Noor Jahan aka Sita rejects his marriage proposal and sets off to Kashmir to find Ram. The two bond, but soon Ram is sent on a top-secret mission to Pakistan.

  What mission is Ram on?

Ram and his crew's mission is to kill Ansari, the man behind the anger of Pakistani citizens against the Indian Army. The crew is informed that if they fail to kill Ansari, the soldiers will be left alone in Pakistan. As Sita (Princess Noon Jahan) leaves for her mission, she bids Ram farewell and asks him to return as soon as possible.

Ram successfully kills Ansari and his crew prepares to leave. However, Ram hears a child crying in Ansari's burning hut. He runs to save her when the rest of the soldiers run away. Captain Vishnu Ram stays behind to save the little girl Waheeda.

Ram hands over Wahid to Captain Abu Tariq. The Pakistani Army arrests Ram and Vishnu and puts them both in solitary confinement where they are tortured for months by two Indian soldiers.

What does Sita (Noor Jahan) do to win Ram back?

When Sita gets angry at Ram's failure to return from her mission, she confronts the Army Brigadier. When he finally learns that Ram has been captured by the Pakistan Army, he begs his brother to bring Ram back. His brother knows high-ranking officials in Pakistan and they make a deal to return Ram and Vishnu to India in exchange for a Pakistani soldier held hostage by the Indian army.

But the Pakistani brigadier changes his mind and says that either Ram or Vishnu will be allowed to return to India. He asks both Ram and Vishnu to reveal the coordinates. Not wanting to betray his country, Ram spits in the Pakistani soldier's face, but Captain Vishnu fears for the safety of his family members and reveals the coordinates.

Why is Brigadier Vishnu chasing Afree?

He is on a quest to find Sita as his grandfather, Brigadier (ex-captain) Abu Tariq Afren, asks him to deliver Ram's letter to Sita Mahalaxmi. Afreen learns that Sita is actually Princess Noor Jahan and Ram has been sent on a mission away from her, he is then determined to find one of the two sides.

Who is Afreen?

Indian Army captures only Afree as Balaji is left behind. Balaji eventually finds Princess Noor Jahan, nicknamed Sita, and gives her the letter Ram wrote to her about 10 years ago.

Sita is in tears as she reads Ram's last words to her. In his letter, Ram attached a news article about Sita becoming Princess Noor Jahan and praises her for giving up her royal life for love. He calls her Prince Noor Jahan in the letter and makes her even more emotional.

Afreen rushes to Sita's house in Kashmir and apologizes to her for what happened to Ram. He asks Sita if Ram is alive and Sita tells him that he was killed in Pakistan. Afreen learns that Ram gave the letter to Brigadier Abu Tariq minutes before he was hanged and asked him to deliver it to Sita.

Does Sita Ramam have a happy ending?

After reading the letter, Sita reveals Ram's words and reveals how Ram was not the one who betrayed the nation. Ram is awarded a badge of honor and Sita takes the name of his wife. The truth about Brigadier Vishnu is revealed and he is stripped of his title.

Afreen realizes his mistake and apologizes to the rich man whose car he broke in the beginning of the film. He then promises to work to help more prisoners of war like Ram.
